Customer project featuring our beautiful Jorvik Grey Antiqued Limestone
The steps that started it all ...
-
The source of the inspiration for this project came from these very steps, once part of a functional coachhouse and stables for an 18th century manor house in East Yorkshire.
-
Weathered and worn for over 300 years, our customer saw these steps and felt a responsibility to honour the character, and purpose of this building in their design choices for the renovation. With these serving as inspiration she began her search for the perfect stone to use in their kitchen/utility space, knowing natural stone would be the ideal choice to respectfully restore the space. The coachhouse had been converted into a residential dwelling 50 years ago, but had not been executed to it's full potential, however the potential was soon to be realised when she stumbled across the perfect limestone in our showroom - Jorvik. After a plethora of samples and showroom visits from other stone retailers, nothing had come close to the specific vision and expectation set by our customer, but as she stepped through our doors she fell in love with Jorvik. The perfect stone for the project, antiqued in its finish which reflects the natural patina, age and character we see in the steps here. She knew that a dark grey stone would compliment her designs and ambition to highlight the original features within the property, and contrast the lighter design choices she planned to use within the space.

A kitchen that was once a mismatch of styles, home improvements and ceramic flooring, became the stunning homely space it is today with Jorvik being an important part of the "design glue" that brought together the building, fixtures and furnishings. A light shaker style kitchen was chosen as the perfect partner to the Jorvik limestone - both timeless and classic, while honouring the history of the space and fitting seamlessly amongst the existing elements they planned to keep, such as the range cooker, and island. The random size tile format used is the ideal choice to acknowledge the history of the property, as traditionally this would be the style used when the building was a working coachouse - and we love that customers can bring that nod to the history into modern living.
-
We supplied all Rocatex and LTP fixing and finishing materials for this project, meaning the customer was set for success! It paid dividends for this customer to use an experienced stone installer, who were were able to recommend from previous customer projects. It isn't always possible for us to recommend an installer, but as this project was only 20 miles down the road, we knew who would be a great fit to ensure a quality finish, and give the product and the customer the care and results it deserves.
-
Limestone also makes great ecological sense for a project like this, just as natural stone was originally chosen for the steps for its durability, choosing natural stone now internally will provide the same benefit. The lifespan of the limestone will far outlive that of any ceramic or porcelain tile, as well as looking better for longer. Ceramic tiles generally tend to age and wear in a matter of years, where natural stone builds beauty and character over decades bringing both cost saving, and ecological benefits.
