Texture in your home ...

When choosing the perfect natural stone floor for you, you have a few things to consider! If you've decided on the beauty of a natural stone floor, the next most obvious thing to consider is the look/colour of the stone. From there you may able to easily narrow you down to a material ... maybe Limestone or marble? We truly believe the best way for you to appreciate and explore your stone choices is to feel, and see them close up! So we encourage you to order our free samples to experience the quality and beauty of our natural stone at home.

Limestone is used for a variety of spaces, most commonly kitchens, living spaces, exterior spaces and hallways but also in bathrooms. Available in more traditional looking stone as well as more modern finishes, you have a wide range available to choose from, so sometimes it can be handy to have another factor to help you narrow down your choice! This is where texture can be considered, and texture is important for both the design and aesthetics of the space, and also the practical benefits it may bring.
Designing a contemporary home/space? You're likely looking at clean lines, more precision on edges, and maybe a more edited colour pallette. If you want the stone to be the star of the show, you may choose something bolder in texture, as the dominant material bringing texture into your space. For example - Jorvik, Minster or sledmere. If your fixtures, fittings and furniture are the statement, maybe a more understated and smoother tile would be suitable such as - Thorganby, MalhamGarrowby, or Castle aged

Working with a more traditional property? Generally speaking traditional or country styles like barn conversions naturally lean towards a more textured stone such as Minster or Sledmere for the feeling of authenticity. However period properties looking to create grandeur and opulence may find a tumbled or polished finished tile leans into this aesthetic.

The practical considerations of the texture of your stone are certainly not to be overlooked either. Function of the room can be important, eg in high traffic areas a more textured stone may be forgiving of dirt, provide grip underfoot and the natural wear and tear will easily add to the patina of the stone. Grip is also important in wet areas such as bathroom or poolside, you may favour a more texture stone here, or a different finish. For example choosing a marble such as Citadel for a bathroom, on flooring you may opt for a honed or tumbled finish vs a polished. This isn't to say that your smoother or more polished stone will be unsuitable, it's purely going to be a factor or preference. Why not order a few free samples, and see for yourself?

Looking for a pet friendly stone? If your furry family members are just as important, you may want to consider texture for grip! Animals are well accustomed to walking on stone surfaces - their paws are built for nature and stone is everywhere in nature, but less practiced when it comes to a polished/tumbled finish. Textured stone should give them more grip to avoid any skidding spaniels or felines flying across your new stone floor!
